Waimea Bay, Oahu

Waimea is the granddad of big wave surfing. It was first ridden in 1957. Surfers train hard to prepare for big wipe outs and other dangers. Sometimes this training takes months. The spot offers huge waves and strong currents. To get to the real wave you must first make it through the shore break. After reading all this it doesn’t sound like a fun spot to surf. However people surf waimea for the never ending drop.
