Spruce Mentality was started by Cole and Andrew, two local teenagers from Southern California. We recently had the opportunity to interview them to see what it takes to start a clothing company while balancing school and a social life.

Lets start with the brand name, how did you guys come up with it and is there any story behind it?
Cole and I chose the name Spruce because it means to look clean in dress or appearance. We decided that since our clothes have a clean timeless old school look we should give it a name that fits that.
What was it like getting your shirts into Jacks Surf Shop?
For us getting our shirts into Jack's was super rad because it is our local shop and the place we buy clothes. Going into your favorite store and seeing your shirts is a pretty good feeling.
How do you balance High School with the responsibilities/work involved with a clothing brand? What has the reaction been from teachers and fellow students?
Balancing everything can be challenging but we are so passionate about the company that we put in time whenever we can. People have been super supportive in Spruce and we can't thank them enough.
Do you guys surf or skate?
We both skate and surf
Would you rather live in Costa Rica for a month or go to Indonesia on a surf trip for a week?
