Joel Parkinson was one of the inform surfers at the 2012 Hurley Pro at Lower Trestles, the latest contest to come to an end for the 2012 ASP World Tour. The final, between Kelly Slater and Joel Parkinson was a very intense and also frustrating heat as the wave opportunities never fully presented themselves.
After suffering a frustrating loss Joel Parkinson went into the competitors area and took out his anger on an unforgiving wall. This left Joel with a couple bloody knuckles, before coming to terms with his loss. I think this is great for professional surfing as a whole, it shows Parkinson's desire to win and hunger for a World Title. So many times it seems like guys don't care about losing a heat or don't show their frustration in fear of losing their good reputation or sponsor.
But in all honesty, from a fans perspective I want to see that passion of both winning and losing. When tempers flare, it makes for an exciting contest and a bit of controversy to get all the boys fired up about surfing. Because when so much money and valuable world ranking points are on the line, guys should be as passionate as Joel Parkinson was here at the 2012 Hurley Pro
