New vs. Used Surfboards

Its been the debate for many years and has only been brought to the forefront since Craigslist became so popular. All surfers love the feeling of walking into a surf shop and buying a new board off the rack. Or even better; going to your local shaper and ordering a custom board.

On the flipside, many surfers are very frugal and are always looking to save money. This can often be done by buying slightly used surfboards at a big discount through Craigslist or a similar venue. The downside is that surfboard shapers ovbiosuly have less business as more people buy used boards or head down to their local Costco warehouse.

The question is: Will you buy a new board or opt for a slightly used board and save upwards of $200 if you patiently wait for a good deal?
