I got a new board

July 17, 2009 by The Surfboard Man · Comments Off

I recnetly got a new board. I opted for a Kane Garden Fish. I took it out yesterday for the first time. I was disappointed cause the surf was small and junky. However, I was plesently surpirised at how fun this board was, not to mention how many waves I caught. I can’t wait to get it in some waist-head high surf. Kane Garden Surfboards are fun to ride and are very fast. Check out there site today.

Sand Down Dings

July 15, 2009 by The Surfboard Man · Comments Off

The other day I was riding my twin fin fish that I had done some ding repair on earlier in the week. I forgot to sand the dings down before I went surfing. That was a mistake, I took off on a steep wave and my foot was to far on the tail and I sliced my foot from the sharp resin that I never sanded down. Always sand down your dings before you go surfing, I sure will.

Alaia Revolution

July 13, 2009 by The Surfboard Man · Comments Off

Five years ago almost no one rode Alaia Surfboards. Most people didn’t even know about them. Today though many people are sliding back into surfing’s past time. These are what people rode way back when. The are thin and mostly flat wood surfboards with no fins. These boards are incredibly fun to ride and even Rob Machado has been riding one. Session Saver – Monthly Giveaway July

July 5, 2009 by The Surfboard Man · Comments Off

We have all had those days when the waves are perfect and we could surf all day. Sounds great until you get a ding and have to go home to fix it. Sure you can use Sun Cure but it has to fully cure and then it needs to be sanded. This is where Session Saver comes in – Session Saver can save your from having to leave the beach when the waves are firing. Session Saver is a putty which can fix both “PU” and “Epoxy” boards. Did I mention this stuff can cure under water? Simply work the putty into the ding and it cures within 15-20 minutes. You don’t even have to sand it. This is definitely the future of ding repair on the go!

I use session saver because of its easy application and good results. It isn’t has good as getting a ding fixed by a professional, but it sure does get the job done. The application is easy to learn and saves a lot of time. Fix the ding and surf on it the same day. I love the fact that their is no sanding required. Save some money, use Session Saver and fix dings yourself.

Surf Contests

July 5, 2009 by The Surfboard Man · Comments Off

One piece of advice I have for young surfers is to enter as many surf contests as you can. The more contests you enter the better chance you have to pick up some sponsors. Chances are you will starting winning some contests and then it just takes off from there. After you start winning some local contests start competing in NSSA contests. Even if you don’t win a lot of contests it will improve your surfing. And remember that the more sponsors you get the more opportunities that will be presented to you.

Read…Read…Read

July 3, 2009 by The Surfboard Man · Comments Off

One of the best ways to improve your surfing technique and skills is to read surfing books and watch surfing movies. When I was a kid I would reading surfing books over and over because I could not surf every day. I learned so much from reading all those books. So if you are learning how to surf, start reading. I have included a list below, of some of my favorite surfing books.

Books:
The Complete Guide to Surfing
The Art of Surfing: A Training Manual for the Developing and Competitive Surfer
Essential Surfing

Movies:
The Endless Summer
Step into Liquid
